Today I thought I would share a few tried and true methods I have found that work to grow your engagement on Instagram. Brands are not just interested in your follower count, they’re also interested in your engagement rate. What is engagement rate? It is the amount of engagement/followers in a certain period. Currently, my engagement rate is at 16%, when I started back up my Instagram a month ago my engagement rate was just at 6%. Let’s get into the tips
1- Use Your Hashtags!
Go to the hashtags you’re posting and start liking and commenting on posts. Using the hashtags that are relevant to your niche will help you interact with other people who are interested in the same things. This will help you grow an audience that is interested in your content.
2- Use Your Followers!
After you post, go straight to your follower list and start liking and commenting on your follower’s posts. Also, watch their stories and interact with them. The Instagram algorithm is strange, but I find the more I interact with people, the more they see my stuff. This is a sure-fire way to make sure you keep showing up in your follower’s feeds.
3- Use Other Influencers!
This one takes a little more time and effort, but it works well for me. Find other influencers in the same niche you are in (eg. beauty, motherhood, fashion, etc.) with about 30-50 thousand followers. Set up post notifications for their posts, and as soon as they post, go like and comment on their post. Once you’ve liked their post and left a thoughtful comment, wait for more of their followers to comment. Click on 50 of their followers who’ve commented and like a few of their posts, and leave a thoughtful comment or two on their posts.
A bonus tip
Nobody wants to post about their miscarriage and receive comments like “you are so gorgeous” and “yes girl!” These are thoughtless and rude, they also clearly show you didn’t read the post. Make sure when you comment you are reading the entire caption and addressing any questions they’ve asked. Also in your comments, when you reply to followers take an extra second and address them by name in the comment reply. It takes a few seconds to click on their profile and see their name and it has an impact. Brands don’t just want lots of followers, they want to reach genuine people. Be engaging and it will be returned to you!
