I did the Whole 30 for a brief stint and during that time I made some goof-ups, one of which surprised me. I was making taco meat and I used my usual taco seasoning then I decided to glance at the ingredients, and here is what I found.
SPICES (INCLUDING CHILI PEPPER, CUMIN, PAPRIKA, OREGANO), ONION, WHEY (MILK), SALT, GARLIC, SUGAR, POTATO STARCH, AND NATURAL FLAVOR.
I was very surprised that it contained milk and sugar, I couldn’t see the reasoning behind it. So I decided to make my own and here it is, it is super delicious and easy to make, and you mix it all up in a mason jar.
Throw all these ingredients into a mason jar with a lid and shake it up!
1/2 cup Chili Powder
1/4 cup Onion Powder
1/8 cup Ground Cumin
1 tablespoon Garlic Powder
1 tablespoon Paprika
1 tablespoon Sea Salt (I have also used kosher)
1 teaspoon Ground Black Pepper
Place lid on jar and shake
*Add 3 TBS of seasoning and 1/3 cup water to each pound of browned ground meat and let simmer until thickened.
*If your recipe calls for a packet of taco seasoning also use 3 TBS.

*You can double or triple the recipe, just make sure there’s enough room in your jar so it can mix well when you shake it.
*This keeps in an airtight jar for up to 6 months, although I have never had a jar around that long.
*If you like a spicy kick try adding 1/4 teaspoon (or more) of Red Pepper flakes
